The Southern Illustrated

A biography of Confederate General T.J. Churchill is provided in The Southern Illustrated, detailing mainly his military service. Churchill fought in the battles of Oak Hill (Wilson's Creek) in Missouri, and Elkhorn (Pea Ridge) and Arkansas Post in Arkansas. In the latter battle, it is claimed by The Southern Illustrated that Churchill was forced to surrender the post only after "the treachery of a German company, who run up the white flag without orders."
