Cyrus Thompson, Little Rock Arsenal, to D.C. Williams, Van Buren, Arkansas

Thompson sympathizes with Williams in losses he sustained in a Federal raid. He writes that "the war will be a leveler in my opinion" and "will result in reducing all rich and poor to one common level in the way of worldly goods." Thompson is tempted to head for South America if the situation in the South doesn't soon improve. He has heard discouraging news from Vicksburg and New Orleans, but no news has reached him from Virginia. Thompson fears Little Rock will be in the hands of the Federals before the end of the fall.
