F.J. Batson, Clarksville, Arkansas, to Governor H. Flanagin

Batson urges Flanagin to visit Clarksville to assure the people there that they have not been forgotten. Many who supported secession originally are now changing allegiances. Batson also informs Flanagin that 200 men "composed of citizens and soldiers from Cabells brigade" have travelled north into the mountains to try to drive out or destroy the bushwhackers there. He warns Flanagin that if the expedition is unsuccessful then "this portion of the state is doomed to destruction." Kie Oldham collection
