The Arkansas History Commission in Little Rock announces a new addition to its material relating to the Mexican War (1846-1848). The collection consists of twelve rolls of microfilm containing the compiled military service records of Arkansas’ Mexican War soldiers. Only portions of these National Archives records have been previously available at the History Commission. This collection complements the compiled military records of Texas Mexican War soldiers already in the Commission’s holdings. Each service record contains the name of the veteran, his age, enlistment and discharge locations and dates, and information about any future pension. At the beginning of each unit‘s records there is a also detailed history of that unit. More than 1,500 Arkansas troopers served in this conflict, most coming from the western part of the state. Later many of these men served in the Confederate or Union armies during the Civil War.
