The Arkansas State Board of Barber Examiners was established by Act 313 of
1937. It reads 'An Act Regulating the Practice of Barbering, Prescribing
the Terms Upon Which Licenses or Certificates of Registration May be Issued
to Practitioners of Barbering, Regulating Barber Schools, Creating and
Providing for the Appointment of a State Board of Barber Examiners, Defining
the Duties of Said Board, Prescribing Fees, Sanitary Rules and Regulations,
Defining Misdeamenors, Providing Penalties for Violation Thereof, and
Repealing All Laws and Parts of Laws in Conflict Therewith'. Barbers were
required as part of the application process to submit two photographs, one
of which was attached to their barber certificate and one which remained at
the Board of Barber Examiners. Barber photographs from 1937-1997 are in
this collection.
