Arkansas Governor George Washington Donaghey (1856-1937) and William Jennings Bryan (1860-1925) traveled around Arkansas via a special train in September 1910, speaking for the adoption of the proposed Initiative and Referendum amendment to the Arkansas state constitution. The five-day trip, which began Tuesday, September 6, and ended September 10, covered 1,750 miles and included fifty-five speeches. Donaghey and Bryan's efforts were successful. The Initiative and Referendum, or Amendment 10, passed 92,781 to 38,648, more than enough to meet the majority of 75,289.
