Manuscripts
More than 4000 manuscript collections are housed at the Arkansas History Commission. In part, they consist of the private and business papers of individuals as well as records of religious, educational, business, patriotic, social, and civic organizations. Also contained in the holdings are state and federal records and governors' papers. Original manuscripts, collections on microfilm, and other photographic copies are included. Many smaller collections are grouped in the Small Manuscripts Collection, available on microfilm. Collectively, these manuscripts comprise a major source of Arkansas history.
Descriptive guides and finding aids for the manuscript collection are available in the Research Room. For access to these guides, patrons should consult the Subject/Place and Biographical Files in addition to the Manuscript Catalog. For a partial listing of our manuscript collections, see the online guide to Arkansas History Commission Manuscript Collections.
